ISCAR 2014

ISCAR or the IIUM Sports Carnival 14’ is the annual event for which the students can exhibit their talent and skills in order to lead their respective kulliyyah to glory. ISCAR started off on 3rd March and it ended on the 15th March. Various sports were held for brothers and sisters, football, badminton and futsal just to name a few. It is a glorious event for IIUM Kuantan, and it became a lot more as it is my first ISCAR as a first year dentistry student.

ISCAR 2014 SCHEDULE

Talents and skills are the major traits for those who want to master the art of sports. The lucky ones were born with talents while the hardworking one will developed more on the skills. But only a few could manage both, and I certainly am not one of them. But it doesn’t mean that I’m a total useless to my friends, because in sports there is always the fan.

The 12th man, a term they used usually in football referring to the fans who countless of time, always being there for their team, through thick or thin. So I settled myself to being the 12th man this time, supporting and cheering whenever possible.

KOD had hosted many talented athletes over the years but our short numbers of brothers limits our full potential. Fortunately this year, combining the youth of my batch the Eximius VII and the experienced of our seniors, KOD looked like a challenger once again.

Our Great seniors

Again, awesome seniors

Lets fight for medal

It seems like Pidot at first place, however....at the end?

Over the course of the 2 weeks, some of the games were being played at the same time to pack the whole ISCAR in the duration. This has made it impossible for the fans to be at each and every game. For me, I only managed to come and give support to only a few games due to time constraints. I’ve chosen to be in mostly sports that I enjoyed the most such as the football or badminton and the sports where a whole team are involved such as the volleyballs or the basketballs.

Football has been quite of dry spell for KOD. We were unable to progress well over the years. But Alhamdulillah this year, it all changed when we managed to get the fourth place. A sturdy defense works, combined with swift attacking movement helps us secured our highest position. The skipper bow to return a lot stronger next year. And maybe we can even improve our goalkeeping department this time. As a football enthusiast myself, being there in the sideline for your team makes you feel belong with them. One of the seniors also said that it was the happening sight of KOD-ians during ISCAR.

Happy moment

We support you !!!

Badminton on the other hand was our pot of gold mainly through our own badminton maestro, Bro Abu of the fifth year. Acting as the captain of the team, this is the last year for him before graduating off as a future dentist. Again combining the strength of both the seniors and the juniors, we were able to dominate our grouping, consisting both KON and KAHS. Badminton this years copied the format of the Thomas’ Cup where a team of 1 single player with 2 pairs of doubles. As fierce as us was during the grouping, we still had only managed to settle on for the fourth place. Our road to the final were halted by the spirited KOP, and during the 3rd or 4th placing against KAHS, the jadedness took the toll on our player. All around it was good fight. Kudos to the player, for  their sheer determination.

Not to forget Nas and his partner, Zul

And of course the supporters that already tired..huh

Surprisingly, the game that I enjoyed the most this time is neither football nor badminton. It was the battles of volleyball. The thumping sound of the spikes and blocks, the loud cheering of the fans made volleyball the most exciting game in the whole ISCAR. Both the final and 3rd or 4th placing took place at the same time. KOD VS KAHS for the 3rd and 4th places while KOM VS KOS in the final. 1 word to describe both matches, Legen…(wait for it)… dary, legendary! The final especially exhibit both the mesmerising display of individual brilliance from KOM against the will power and the teamwork of KOS. KOM has dominated volleyball for so long and some of the fans were voting for the underdog to win. But the experienced of KOM drives them home and earned them the gold medal. As for us, we managed to win our hard fought battles against KAHS, earning ourselves the bronze medal. Congratulation to all, both the players and the fans.
