The conference day on last Monday, 10th February 2014, was the first experience for most of us, the first year IIUM dentistry students. The thing that popped out in our mind at first was that it must be a huge event since there would be a number of honored lecturers from other universities participated as a guest. To begin with, this conference is the third conference that had been held by Kulliyyah of Dentistry IIUM Kuantan. We were wondering whether it was compulsory for us to come because we had only learned a bit about the whole world of dentistry. But of course, it was compulsory.
The
students' registration started at 8.30 am until 9 am. As expected, more than half
of the students had already reached there at 8 in the morning, especially the
final year students with their clean and smart blue tunic as they would present their big project on that big day. As for the first year students,
the girls were wearing black jubah with white tudung. Meanwhile, the boys were wearing green collar t-shirt.
The
staff at the registration table gave a tentative booklet to each and everyone of us. In that
booklet, there were speech from the rector, dean and other important individuals. It also included a list of invited guests. The most important thing
was, it added the overall view of the final year seniors’ projects. They
were sectioned into two main groups of presentation; oral and poster
presentation. The ten groups of oral presentation was held in auditorium
meanwhile another eight group of poster presentation was at Year 1 classroom. The
rest of the students stayed at the auditorium so we did not know what was
happening in the poster presentation room.
Before
the presentation of the first group started, the first year male students
performed their “hand-hygiene” dance, which was quite a surprise for us. The girls
already knew that the boys had to dance but we did not expect it to be that
funny and adorable. They did a great job. Not to forget, the
dancing was monitored and assisted by Dr Widya. Thanks to her that we received
a compliment from the rector. As much as we were excited to see the dance,
we were also thrilled to see performances from the seniors. Be patient, we will
tell you more about this afterwards.
Hand Hygiene Dance Performance by First Year Students
The presentations were going smoothly. The presenters were great and the best thing was they were so confident to present them, in front of hundreds of people. This good point also had been brought out by the jurists. It is undeniable that the jurists were impressed. Good job, seniors! The presentation was divided into two parts which is 10 minutes presentation followed by a short Q&A session. The jurists and audiences had the opportunity to ask them any related questions. There were times when the jurists gave their commendation or suggestion for next future study instead of giving question. All in all, Alhamdulillah, praises to Allah S.W.T because everything went so well.
There would be a break after few presentations. In the first break, the first year students presented their performance
This
group was the winner for Scientific Evening role-play event. Each group had
their own theme and this group's theme was ‘dental public health’.
Now,
its time to talk about the seniors’ performance. Don't worry, below are the videos of their performances. As what Dr Hamoud always says, ”A picture worth thousand words”.

Silent Comedy Performance by Year 4 Students
While
the performances went on, the jurists were having a hard time to choose the
best among the best presentations. And finally, it is time to announce the winner. The
best three groups for both oral and poster presentation would be given a trophy. Ops, before that, there was a talk from the representative from
Colgate company and during the lunch break in the
afternoon, each students was given a dental hygiene set from Colgate. Thanks
to the sponsor. In the talk, he mentioned about the new release of
Colgate toothpaste which is the first toothpaste in the world that includes the
acid neutraliser in it.
